Specific services for increased efficiency
Ground-breaking testing options
A progressive technology, Vibrant’s PCRT continues to break ground in new and expanded areas. Unlike traditional NDT services, PCRT and the data derived from tests can be used in multiple ways, allowing you to confidently increase efficiencies and reduce failures, all with one technology.
Screening for Process Outliers
Outlier screening is PCRT’s basic method for Pass/Fail testing for production and in-service components. Resonance frequency data is recorded and automatically analyzed using Vibrant’s Vibrational Pattern Recognition (VIPR) algorithms and Mahalanobis-Taguchi System (MTS) statistical scoring. MTS scores parts on their similarity to the known good population and returns a clear Pass/Fail result, eliminating operator interpretation.
Targeted Defect Detection
For applications with specific defects of interest, a PCRT sort can be trained with examples of parts with those defects. VIPR selects resonance spectra identifying both process outliers and parts with targeted defects. The statistical scoring algorithms then score parts on their similarity to both the good and known bad training populations and return automated Pass/Fail results in production testing.
Life Monitoring
Never again guess about a part’s integrity or life expectancy. Through PCRT, a part’s integrity is monitored from creation to end of life. At regular part inspections, sensitive PCRT spectra is gathered and compared over time. PCRT tracks serialized parts throughout their service lifetime, automatically detecting and flagging the onset of fatigue failure.
Since the part is always compared only to itself, variation from part-to-part does not cloud results. Resonance changes detected are due to changes in the part’s structural integrity and can be used to evaluate the accumulation of fatigue, damage or other life-limiting conditions. This offers opportunities for condition-based maintenance, and potentially even life extension for parts that are currently constrained by either a soft or hard hour limitation.
PCRT life monitoring can provide either a simple Pass/Fail result or a more in-depth review of the resonance data:
- Real world data on part performance over time
- Predictions on the remaining life of individual components
- Early warning of manufacturing or field performance issues
Manufacturing Process Control
PCRT data provides a unique way to characterize, monitor and control manufacturing processes. Resonance frequencies, and the MTS/Bias statistical scoring PCRT performs on those frequencies, is used to establish process control limits, track process output versus time, and compare part populations. PCRT process monitoring helps characterize and qualify new manufacturing processes and add new control capability for existing processes. It is also used to compare and qualify suppliers.
Material Property Characterization
Confirm integrity of outsourced parts and immediately identify counterfeit components. Vibrant’s RUSpec capability enables measurement of engineering material properties using a part’s resonance frequencies, comparing them to both the population, and, if available, quantified baseline specifications. These measurements provide an ideal tool for monitoring material processes or for material laboratory experiments, as well as confirming authenticity and proper manufacturing from supplier companies.
Advanced Technology
In addition to our resonance testing services, Vibrant continues to challenge today’s inspection and maintenance mindset by offering new and innovative technology such as inspection for Additive Manufacturing, Advanced Modeling, In-Situ Monitoring & Testing and Big Data to increase part reliability and reduce failure.
