Allegiant Air, an all-jet passenger airline, has implemented Vibrant Corporation’s Process Compensated Resonance Testing (PCRT) for non-destructive inspection of first stage turbine blades for the JT8D turbofan engine. “This is a great example of a turnkey PCRT solution for a new customer,” said Vibrant Director of Operations Greg Weaver. “Our extensive experience with the JT8D allowed us to begin automated inspection as soon as Allegiant’s blades arrived.” The JT8D powers Allegiant’s fleet of MD-80 series aircraft. Vibrant’s FAA-approved PCRT inspection for JT8D turbine blades detects material changes due to overtemperature exposure, cracks, corrosion and geometrical defects.
