Vibrant Corporation has been awarded a research contract with the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH. The three-year, $1.26 million contract requires Vibrant to develop models that predict the effects of material damage on the measurements made with Vibrant’s resonant ultrasound spectroscopy (RUS) technology. The knowledge gained from these studies will enable more accurate nondestructive evaluation (NDE) of critical aircraft and engine components for military and civil aerospace. For this program, Vibrant has partnered with Computational Tools Inc. and the Materials Department at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). Computational Tools is a company specializing in modeling techniques for NDE methods. UCSB’s Materials Department specializes in material characteristics, damage mechanisms and material experimentation.

“Our new project continues building on the strong relationship that we already have with AFRL,” said Vibrant President and CEO Lem Hunter. “The tools we will develop in this project will enable the Air Force to more accurately determine which parts to scrap and which ones remain serviceable. We will be able to produce an even more powerful testing platform for the U.S. Air Force and commercial customers in the years to come.”

Vibrant’s new contract has also been featured in the Albuquerque Journal.
